MD Groundworks were requested to rebuild an 80-year-old substation boundary wall in a Central London substation which had been demolished by a previous contractor to allow new cables to be installed. This resulted in a difficult and challenging but successful search to source the correct type of brick used in the original construction.
Section 50 Licence and Traffic Management was required as the wall formed the boundary between the substation and the highway. Due to the large number of live services within the compound it required the use of a Vac-Ex machine to safely remove the ground to install a new concrete base bridging the cables to support the new wall. New bricks were used on top of the new foundation to successfully complete the rebuild to match the existing wall with the addition of security palisade fencing mounted on top.
